Marty Moates Memorial Minibike Race at Carlsbad Raceway

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, December 29, 2006
Marty Moates

Host: Eric Baker/No Fear
Location: Carlsbad Raceway
Palomar Airport Rd and Melrose, Carlsbad, CA

When: Monday, January 1, 8:00am to 12:00pm
Phone: 760-889-1444

This is the first (and most likely the last) Annual minibike race at the most famous motocross track in the world to honor the late Marty Moates in the way he would have wanted it. Unsanctioned, illegal and otherwise improbable, we will wave the green starter's flag at 8:00 AM January 1, 2007. Stock pipes, 110CC maximum. We will also be erecting a "roadside" shrine to Marty on the top of Devil's Drop. Bring any photos or memorabilia that you would like to contribute to the shrine.

Marty Moates

There will be a New Year's Eve Track Prep Party beginning Sunday, December 31st at 4:00 PM to Midnight. Bring shovels, rakes, stakes, track boundary banners, lanterns, flashlights and Bud Light. Park at the first building on the right as you travel north on Melrose, north of Palomar Airport Rd. It will be obvious from there. If anyone is traveling from out of town, you are welcome to crash at my house. Bring your own sleeping bags and pillows and I've got plenty of floor space two blocks from the track.

Does Carlsbad Raceway still exist? No, but the concrete start line (the gate has been dismantled), start straight, first turn, second turn (right hand sweeper), 2nd to last turn (gradual uphill right hand sweeper) and Devil's Drop are exactly the same as they were in 1980.

Come on out, race mini bikes and remember one of the greats!

etnies & Deftones Contest!

The long-awaited follow-up to 2003’s Deftones is deceptively tuneful and alarmingly heavy, see-sawing between melancholy reflection and jaw-clenching frustration like a manic depressive refusing his meds. Saturday Night Wrist incorporates disparate elements of hard rock, heavy metal, punk, classic, alternative and electronic music within its tumultuous grooves.

Overall, Saturday Night Wrist is experimental and innovative, it overflows with undeniable hooks, which serve as reminders that first and foremost, Deftones will always be about strong, emotionally resonant songs. Today’s Deftones have emerged stronger, smarter and more excited as a result of their experience. The end result of that is Saturday Night Wrist.

esp

To celebrate the new Deftones album, etnies and the band are holding a contest to giveaway an ESP guitar signed by the band, free etnies shoes, pink Nokia cell phones and more! All you have to do is fill out this form and we will choose the three lucky winners soon! Good luck!

Toronto Supercross GP

Nick Wey.... Photo: TWMX

The 2007 Supercross season kicked off last weekend in Toronto in a big way, and if this first round is any indication of the coming season, well, we're in for a war! The battles up front were amazing with Stewart and Reedy going back and forth, but in the finals laps Stewart went flying off the track while racing with Reed. When Stewart tried to get back on the track he rode right in front of etnies' Travis Preston (who was on his debut ride with the Sobe/Samsung team) as Preston was landing. Preston slammed into Stewart (check the slow-mo) and both of them went down. Stewart managed to get up and finish third while Preston was not as lucky (with results) and couldn't continue and he wound up in 16th place...what a bummer! Needless to say, Travis had some choice words for James after the race for that bonehead maneuver.

Tim Ferry

Tim Ferry is lookin' good in his second race on the new factory Kawi... Red Dog finished in fourth place behind the big 3. Some podium appearance are definitely in the cards for Timmy in 2007...just watch!

You know that MDK Honda of Nick Wey's is pissed off and ready to battle...just like NYK! Wey smoked everyone to the first corner and grabbed the holeshot in the SX main event! Wey went on to finish sixth overall.

Next week it all goes down again in Vancouver...
