Found these photos of a dog catching some serious air (for a dog!) on his dirt bike over at Flickr. The pup even races the Baja 500 & 1000. This might be the coolest dog ever! Maybe even cooler than the skateboarding dog!?!?!

Rain + Beaumont = Ditch Work!

Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, November 28, 2006
Our boy Slarf got the only riding photo of the day on a step up by where we parked! Blowin' up!
Trigg's clapped out ride was lovin' the chocolate cake!

When I heard the weather forecast on Sunday I thought there might be a chance... when I saw the rain falling Monday I knew the dirt would be good... when I sent out a text message to 20 people on Monday night about an early morning Beaumont session and only about 6 of them said "hell yeah!", well, I knew everyone else was pussin' out and we were still charging it! It was on!

Trigger Gumm, Cameron Steele, Fluffer, Ox, Ian Mac (etnies designer), Slarf (San Clemente bike mechanic master), and me (etnies web guy) were the only ones with nuts enough to ditch work and session the hills. It was well worth it...the dirt was perfect!!!! (Actually, Ian and I are the only ones with real jobs...hope we're not fired!)

It's not often you get dirt this good, so we left the jumps alone for another day. Today it was all about the hill and cliff climbs! I think Fluffer and Trigger made about $20 betting against Ox and Cameron if they could make it up a couple different hill climbs! All I can say is I'm so pumped I just picked up a new CRF450 for all the Beaumont trips soon to come! Next time, when it's all green and perfect, we'll get the whole crew out there and get some sick riding photos! Promise.

Josh Grant Wins the Genoa Supercross

Posted by: Cropley | Monday, November 27, 2006

So, basically what I can surmise from translating a couple Italian web sites with Google is that Italian Yamaha rider Tony Cairoli took the holeshot at the Genova Supercross, but was soon passed by etnies' Josh Grant who ran away with the win followed by Mike Alessi in second. Congrats Josh!

The Baja 1000

Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, November 22, 2006

The Baja 1000 - from Ensenada to La Paz - 1047 miles of toughest racing in the world!
Photos: Off-Road.com

etnies rider Steve Hengeveld took the overall win at the Baja 1000! Steve finished almost 1 hour ahead of the next finishing vehicle and over 2 hours ahead of the next motorcycle on one of the toughest Baja 1000 courses ever!!! Steve made history with his 5th Baja 1000 win in a row, beating out the previous record held by Johnny Campbell. Steve, congrats from etnies and good luck on six in a row next year!

Check out some video clips of Steve crossing the finish line at digital1unlimited.tv

The etnies-backed Desert Assassins team was in full force at this year's Baja 1000. The team had 5 different vehicles attempting the 1000 mile race which started last Thursday morning in Ensenada! Here's the rundown:

The first of the DA vehicles off the line would be the 19X FMF/Service Honda/Nicoll Racing Open Pro CRF450X ridden by Cameron Steele, Trigger Gumm, Grant Steele, Craig Smith, Larry Badgwell, Conner Gilmer, Cody Stuart and Max Eddy. The eight of them would trade off riding duties until the finish, but some bike problems around mile 680 would leave Conner Gilmer stuck in the middle of nowhere to sleep under a bush until he could get a ride back to a pit. That was the end of the race for the DA bike team.

The #16 Unbound Energy Trophy Truck driven by Cameron Steele was next up. With 700 HP, this thing will go 120+mph through the desert, destroying everything in it's path including other Trophy Trucks! But, unfortunately, the Baja 1000 got the best of it this time. The truck had mechanical problems all day (the wheel fell off while going 80MPH!!!) and called it quits after trying every possible thing to get going again. Better luck next time, eh.

Darren Hardesty is a bad-ass when it comes to driving off-road cars (he even nerfed Travis Pastrana while pre-running!). Darren came into the final race with the lead in Calss 10 points and requested a rear start (so he started behind everyone in his class!). His driving partner Mark Randazzo started the race and handed off the Class 10 car to Darren in really good position at the halfway point. Darren then took it to the finish in first place in Class 10 (9th place overall!) and won the Class 10 Championship! A big congrats to the whole Hardesty crew!

Another Champion and bad-ass in the DA crew is Brian "Cheater" Burgess! Cheater, who has been know to wear women's dresses, drove a smart race and finished in second place. But what really matters is that he finished ahead of the guy who was first place in points going into the Baja 1000. Cheater did just that and walked away with the Class 1/2-1600 Championship, which is arguably the most competitive class in off-road racing!

Congrats Cheater!

Last to finish but not least (at least it finished!) is the Unbound Energy 7SX Truck driven by Heidi Steele, Chris Vano, Danny Ellender and Justin Smith (AKA Bean). I (the etnies web guy) was the co-driver for Bean for the last 300 miles, and anything that could have gone wrong pretty much did! The first 70 or so miles of our section went perfect. We were going pretty fast and passing a bunch of cars and trucks as the sun was setting behind the mountains.

how's the hole we hit at 40MPH!

Just 15 miles from a scheduled pit stop we hit the silt...if you don't know about silt, just imagine miles of road covered in dust just like baby powder, but it's 2 feet deep and the second you hit it you cant see a thing and the car instantly wants to get stuck! Well, there was another car stuck in the silt in the middle of the road and there was no way we were slowing down because we would get stuck, too. Of course we hit the other car, went through a barbed wire fence and about 10 cactus, and broke the steering box! Not good!

About an hour later we got that all fixed, took off back down the course and got stuck a half mile later! We dug ourselves out, then got stuck again! It took about 3 hours to go only 15 miles! We still had over 200 miles to go!

In the next 200 miles we got stuck in the silt two more times, hit a big hole and broke the I-beam, welded it back together and had 3 flat tires! Bean and I first got in the truck at 2PM on Friday afternoon... we finished at 5:00AM Saturday morning! 15 hours and we went only 300 miles...but at least we finished!!!

Two Wheel Tour - Cameron, AZ & Vegas Wrap Up

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, November 10, 2006

For the first time on the TWT (Two Wheel Tour) everyone actually woke up early, got their shit together and got on the road relatively early. It was a-forking-maze-ing! All the stuff that we had been hearing about how sick Cameron was definitely motivated everyone a little, plus we felt bad we flaked on McNeil. Turns out he got over it and left the night before... sorry buddy.

This was the first time I had seen the Grand Canyon in person and, well, it's pretty damn Grand, that's for sure!

Anyways, it didn't take too long to ride to Cameron. And once we got there it didn't take too long for half of the local Navajo tribe to stop by and say "what's up?". They were all really cool and Potter felt right at home as he is part Native American himself. But this one dude was so drunk, or on peyote or something, that he fell over about 20 times and if he said "man, what are you dudes doing over here. Can I come?" (in a barely understandable slur) once, he said it a million times. Sorry bud, there was no room on my bike!

No one really knew what to expect because Ryan and Hank from Freek got there early and rode a little session, but they said they didn't find any good jumps. I'm not really sure where they were riding because the second we got out there we started finding hits all over the place! It's crazy all the possibilities out there!

Potter and Garland were going off on some BIG doubles and hips everywhere. I'm not sure what to say about the place... it's kinda like Ocotillo Wells before hundreds of thousands of people would come out every weekend and blow out everything. Just check the photos and you'll see. It was hard for me to get off my bike and shoot some photos because everything was so fun! But I managed to snap a good amount, so check them out in the Photo Gallery!

After a few solid sessions in the hills we packed up, jumped on our Harley's and pinned it to Las Vegas...

Drinking, gambling, drinking, slots, chicks, blackjack, craps, drinking, poker, machine guns, drinking.... that pretty much sums up our time in Vegas...and it went off! The next morning we stopped by the "Gun Shop" before heading home. The Gun Shop is just that...a gun shop. But the cool part about this gun shop is that you can shoot automatic MACHINE GUNS!!! Hell yeah! There is nothing more fun than holding down the trigger of an Oozy or M16 and blowing the shit out of a Bin Laden poster! Much respect to the guys that do it for real over seas, because it's not that easy!

Well, from Vegas we all rode home and that was all she wrote for the first etnies Two Wheel Tour. Keep checking back for more photos, wallpapers and tons of video in the coming weeks! For now check out the Photo Galleries!

A Niiiceee

Brendan Lutes from Transworld was on hand for all the debauchery on the tour, so you can count on some photos popping up on transworldmotocross.com pretty soon, plus some coverage in an upcoming issue.

The crew from FUEL TV's M80 also came out to shoot for their show, so we'll keep ya posted on air dates and times when they come up.

Of course there would be no tour without riders...Seth, Trigger, Potter, Garland, Deegan, Twitch and McNeil. Thanks! Oh yeah, and let's not forget Chapman the babysitter!

Thanks to Rockstar Energy Drink and Boost Mobile for helping to make this happen.

It's on for next year!

Tour Update - Laughlin to the Grand Canyon

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, November 10, 2006

yummmm, $7 buffet

As you can imagine, waking up Wednesday morning after a night of partyin' in Laughlin was not easy to say the least. After a little breakfast buffet action we finally rallied the troops and got on the road bright and early at 2PM!!! Holy shit! We were supposed to be in Cameron, AZ by Wednesday afternoon to meet up with Jim McNeil. It's about 230 miles from Laughlin to Cameron (4 hours 41 minutes according to Google Maps), so it should be no problem to get there, right? That's what we thought!

Chappy wasn't too happy with the steak house bill... thanks buddy!

So, somewhere around Williams, AZ we stopped for gas. It was getting close to sunset and someone (cough cough Seth) had the bright idea to take a little detour and ride through the Grand Canyon so we could get some photos on the way to Cameron. No problem, except by the time we got to the Grand Canyon it was dark, 30 degrees out and there were Elk in the middle of the road! It's safe to say that those are not prime Harley riding or photo conditions. So everyone voted to stay at a hotel in this little town and ride to Cameron in the morning. After a hearty steak dinner, the best bowling session of all time went down at the local lanes...I forgot my camera, but Lutes got some sick shots that should be on TWMX real soon like.

Then it was off to bed so we could get to Cameron first thing in the A.M. Hopefully McNeil would still be there?!?

Two Wheel Tour Day 2 - Ocotillo Wells

Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, November 8, 2006

Frickin’ Potter! The guy woke up at 7AM in Ocotillo, geared up and woke up everyone!!! It's all good though. Potter, the Fuel TV guys and I all went out for an early filming session and Potter hit a few sick jumps and found some virgin sand to roost for the cameras.

Brian Deegan and Twitch rolled out too. Deegs just got back on the bike after his broken wrist a few months back and was killing it on a bunch of techy whip jumps. Twitch's leg is still on the mend, but he manage to bring out his 70 and he and Seth, the crippled crew, charged out and went trail riding while everyone else was riding big bikes. For a couple cripples with broken bones they were going up some crazy ass cliffs!

After a solid day of riding we loaded up at sunset and hit the road on the Harley’s! Laughlin was the destination. So, with that in mind and a few hundred miles to go, we pinned it up the I40 to the 95. Somewhere outside of Needles, CA Potter ran out of gas! It could have had something to do with him going 110mph for an hour straight, but who knows… all I know is that he had to push his Harley a couple miles to get some gas. Granted, it was mostly down hill, but when the road did hit a flat spot watching him running along side the bike pushing it was pure comedy…you’ll see the video real soon!

Everyone was beat from the long ride to Laughlin, but magically once we hit the smokey air of the casinos suddenly nobody was tired anymore, but very thirsty for a beer or two. Well you can imagine how that went….

Check out the Photo Gallery from days 1 & 2!

Two Wheel Tour - Day 1

Posted by: Cropley | Monday, November 6, 2006

Well, day one of the etnies Two Wheel Tour is in the books and we finally made it to Ocotillo Wells! After a little IHOP breakfast in Marina Del Rey, Trigger, Seth, Potter, Garland and Chapman picked up their new Harley's at Bartels'. From there we all went up to the filming of the Camp Crusty reality show for no particular reason except for Trigger and Seth to check in (gotta get paid!) and for everyone to steal some free lunch! It was sick to see the setup they had there... foam pit, outdoor track, Supercross track, 50 track, a destroyed F350 truck and Seth's mangled Ford Ranger that got rolled by new race truck driver Mike Metzger! haha

Potter ain't scared

After the Camp Crusty pit stop we pinned it straight to Ocotillo hoping to get in an evening session, but it was totally dark when we pulled up to Pole Line Road... so instead of riding, we started drinking! Yep, so that's how yesterday went.

Barnett is supposed to be coming out tomorrow with Garland's bike and Deegan and Twitch are driving out in the morning. Riding photos will be up right after we get in a couple sessions so check back!

Derek Garland just sent in a little update on the road from the freestylemx.com tour. The Garlander also just got a new Harley and will be on the etnies Two Wheel Tour coming up next week!

I did a show last Sunday the 29th in Callulican, Mexico (couple hours from Mazatlan). It was in a sold out soccer field stadium and the Mexicans were super amped as usual...Corona was one of the sponsors so there was plenty of free beer, which is always nice! - Derek
