Red Bull Ride to the Hills

Our boy Todd Potter was one of the invited riders to this year's Red Bull Ride to the Hills event. This year they hit up the infamous Ocotillo Wells and Glamis for the two day, rider judged contest. TP, being the seasoned Ocotillo Wells veteran that he is, nabbed third place for the day in the mud hills. Nice!

The contest then moved to Glamis where reportedly it was pretty damn windy and shitty. They made due with the conditions and made it happen, though. TP didn't fair as well in the sand as he did in the mud hills. But not because he sucks in the sand, he kicks ass in the sand, but in a standard Potter maneuver, he just might have had a few drinks the night before...it happens.
Well, congrats to Potter on third in Ocotillo and getting some sick shots! Check out the Ride to the Hills web site and TransworldMX for more photos, video and the full rundown.

Twitch Stopped by the Office Today
Posted by: Cropley | Thursday, October 19, 2006Twitch stopped by the etnies office today to put in some work on his upcoming etnies pro shoe! It looks sick! He and his lady Susan also raided the company store for a ton of new etnies goods.
Twitch is now walking around just fine after breaking both legs a few months ago at the Dew Tour. His legs are still a little sore and he has some gnarly scars where his tib-fib popped out of the skin, but he should be back riding again by mid November.
Hats and shirts were autographed, so look out for some product giveaways coming up real soon like.

Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, October 18, 2006Travis Preston announced his new ride for 2007 since his factory Honda contract wasn't renewed. Preston will be riding Supercross only for the Sobe/Samsung Mobile/Honda team in 2007 along side Kevin Windham in the 450F class. That's the next best thing to a factory ride!

Josh Grant Sweeps the US Open
Posted by: Cropley | Monday, October 16, 2006The US Open marks either the end of one season or the beginning of the next... and which ever way you look at it--beginning of '07 or end of '06--Josh Grant started/ended the season HUGE by sweeping the Lites class on both nights of the Rockstar Energy US Open of Supercross! Josh holeshotted both nights and easily ran away with the wins.

- Red Dog looks good on the green machine!
Sobe/Samsung's Jake Weimer also rode really solid with a fourth place finish on Friday night, and he got up on the podium Saturday night in second place. Tommy Hahn, factory Honda's new Lites rider, took third place on Saturday. Congrats!
Timmy Ferry made his debut appearance on his factory Kawasaki at the US Open, proving why he deserved the factory ride with a fifth place finish on Friday and sixth on Saturday. Nice!
Friday the 13th!

Wey & Chuck Liddell to Sign Autographs
Posted by: Cropley | Thursday, October 12, 2006Our boy Nick Wey is going to be signing autographs Friday, October 13 at the US Open in Vegas, from 3:30-5:00PM with his new teammate DV and UFC champ Chuck Liddell for their sponsor Xyience.
Nick won't be riding the US Open because of a shoulder injury from the McGrath Invitational, but with that game face I think he could still kick Liddell's ass!

Jim McNeil Face Plants - Ouch!
Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, October 10, 2006etnies moto rider Jim McNeil crashed last week while riding at his friend's house and broke bones in his forehead, cheek, nose, jaw and eye socket. Yeah, he's gnarly! Get well soon bro. We'll let Jim tell ya what happened...

- before...
Here is my story!
I was riding on last Wednesday at my buddy Sheldon Riggs’ house. I was riding every day trying to get ready for the last Mountain Dew stop in Orlando. It was getting towards the end of the day and I was getting tired of doing tricks and just felt like jumping. There was an 80ft step up out of a pit that I was going to hit. The jump was just refaced a week earlier and hadn’t been packed, so the lip was soft and got all blown out real quick.

- ...after
Sheldon was packing a landing right next to the landing of the dirt step up. I went off the step up and got cross rutted, sending me to land in the soft dirt on the side of the landing. When I landed in the soft dirt it ripped my left hand off and my legs blew off the pegs. I totally swapped out and should have been tossed off the bike, but some how, since my throttle hand was still on the bike, it made me whiskey throttle and it some how stood my bike back up and kept me from crashing. I was pinned out of control and couldn’t let go of the throttle. I went second gear pinned into Sheldon’s truck and didn’t have time to slow down or gain control of my bike.
I didn’t get knocked out, but knew something was wrong. I knew I had been cut, but couldn’t see out of my right eye and couldn’t feel the right side of my face or mouth. Sheldon rushed me to the hospital and that’s when the shock wore off and the pain started to set in. Once I got to the hospital they did a CAT scan which revealed I had fractures throughout he right side of my face and air in my brain. They rushed me to St. Joe's which is the trauma hospital were I was in ICU for two days waiting for the air to release out of my brain.
I had surgery on Saturday which went really good. They put plates and screws throughout my face to fix fractures in my orbital bone (eye socket), fore head, and cheek bone. I felt so much better after surgery and was in a less pain since every thing was lined up and in place. I should start riding in about 4 to 6 weeks, just depending how I feel.
It’s a given in the sport of freestyle motocross that you are going to get hurt and break bones. I just never thought it would be my face I would be breaking. I’ve had a lot of injuries, and this would have to be the most painful and scariest…especially when I got to the second hospital and both my eyes were swollen shut and I couldn’t see.

The McGrath Invitational
Posted by: Cropley | Monday, October 9, 2006The inaugural Jeremy McGrath Invitational went on over the weekend and it was definitely different than anyone had ever seen in a Supercross race. Two 16’ wide freestyle ramps on the course were the biggest changes and made for some interesting first lap battles and some HUGE upside-down whips!
Sobe/Samsung’s Josh Grant was by far the fastest 250F out there, matching the lap times of his teammate Kevin Windham, who swept the event. On both nights Josh took second place to his teammate in the head-to-head racing. Night two saw Josh in a heated head-to-head battle with David Vuillemin for a spot in the final. In the first turn DV almost parked Grant in the first corner and took the lead. Grant stayed right on DV’s tail the entire race... until the last corner when Josh got him back with and aggressive pass and took the WIN!
Josh, underpowered vs. the 450F’s on his 250F, got mediocre starts on both night's Supercross main events and had to work his way to the front. Night one Josh took second to K-Dub and finished just ahead of etnies’ Nick Wey in third.
During qualifying for night two, Nick Wey had a crash in the back rhythm section and (I think) separated his shoulder and had a slight concussion.
Josh Grant took third place in the main event on night two and made a sh!t load of $$$ over the weekend! Congrats!
