What's Been Goin' Down...

Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, August 30, 2005

Brian Deegan and etnies team manager Matt Chapman are going out to California Speedway for the Busch Series Ameriquest 300 this weekend to hangout with NASCAR driver and huge Metal Mulisha and etnies fan Carl Edwards.

Last week Deegan was out in Wisconsin testing a short course off-road truck with Baldwin Racing. Deegan plans on racing a CORR race this September in San Diego with the team.

Todd Potter landed his first ever backflips last week!

Trigger Gumm and Seth Enslow are out at Pastrana’s casa practicing backflips into the foam pit and within the next couple days they are hoping to have it down on to dirt.

The Hayden bros lead Supersport.

etnies road racers dominated last weekend at Virginia International Raceway where Roger Hayden took the win in Supersport just a split second in front of his brother Tommy Hayden who took second. Tommy has a huge 31 point lead over second place Roger in the series points, and Roger has a 30 point lead over his next competitor. Looks like the Hayden’s are going 1-2 for the Supersport championship!

Roger followed up his win in Supersport with his best finish of the season in Superstock, second place. Roger is in fourth overall with one round to go and has an outside chance of a podium if all goes well.

Jake Zemke got second place in Formula Xtreme and is sitting in first place for the championship by only five points. He has been trading wins and second place finishes back and forth with his rival Miguel DuHamel the whole season. If Jake wins next week he takes the championship, if Miguel wins he takes it. Talk about down to the wire, damn!

A couple weeks ago the Amateur National Championship was held at Loretta Lynn’s and Nico Izzy was clearly the dominant 85cc 14-15 rider, scoring a win in moto 1 and 3 but bike problems in moto 2 cost him the championship. Nico destroyed everyone in the Supermini class in which he took the championship.

etnies Girl rider Sarah Whitmore won the women’s title after sitting out last year due to an injury.

Mike Brown may not be on the US MXdN team anymore but you can still support Brown by buying one of the original Team USA t-shirts still featuring Brown (already a collectable), or you can support team USA in general and buy the updated Team USA T-shirt. And if you’re over the whole MXdN drama like I am then check out the etnies online store cuz you know we have the best shirts everrrr, minus the drama. Either way you’ll be stylin’.

Potter Learns Backflips!

Posted by: Cropley | Saturday, August 27, 2005

Well after the Dew Tour in Portland last week Todd drove up to Spokane, Washington with Ailo Gaup from Norway to film for Pastrana's new movie, the Nitro Circuis 3. Todd hung around for a few days and got in some good riding and footage for the video, including some rock-solids, cliffhangers and KOD's off a 150 foot kicker!

After month of failed attempts and eating shit (which is well documented in the new Metal Mulisha video) Potter sacked up this week and pulled his first ever backflip to dirt. It was off a comp ramp that was jacked up in the front and dug into a hill so it was like a steep step up. It took a few tries of going over the bars and looping out before he finally pulled it (without a rear fender!).

Todd is doing a show in Fresno right now but will be taking his new found flipping skills to the 75' ramp at Deegan's next week. Good luck and congrats Todd!

Passed Out Wookies

Found this Wook passed out in the back yard.

Don't know what a Wookie is? Neither did I, until I found this Wookie web site and realized that real life Wookies live, smell bad, get loaded, and pass out among us everyday.

Mike Brown Out For The MXdN

Posted by: Cropley | Thursday, August 25, 2005
Big Brownie and little Brownie were up on the podium quite a bit in the first part of the season.

Mike Brown was invited to ride for Team USA at the Motocross des Nations this year, which was a huge honor and a dream come true for Mike. Until yesterday when it was announced that Brownie would not be riding for his country at the MXdN and have to sit out the legendary race. His results lately have not been quite as good as the first part of the season so the tough decision was made to change riders. The whole deal sucks for Brownie.

Check out the press release for the details and check out the open letter from Ricky Carmichael about the whole situation.

In support of Mike Brown

and his team and his fans, etnies and Thor are giving away an autographed Mike Brown Thor jersey and a pair of etnies to the author of the Best Comment In The etnies Moto Blog through next week. So blog your hearts out and win an autographed piece of history and some etnies.

This Weekend In Moto

Posted by: Cropley | Monday, August 22, 2005

Twitch took third place in Freestyle at the Dew Tour this weekend on the IFMA style, tight indoor course. No 100’ dirt jumps this time, just the old 75’ ramp, turn, 75’ ramp, turn, 75’ ramp…etc. But Twitch killed it as usual with some no-handed to no-footed flips and nac heel-clicker flips. Twitch is sitting in second place overall for the Dew Tour championship.

Twitch Wallpapers

Todd Potter also made it out to Portland to try his hand at the contest, but during practice he ate shit pretty bad, knocking himself silly and spitting up blood. Potter lied to the medical staff and told them he felt fine to ride even though he couldn’t even see straight. He rode the prelims but didn’t quite make the finals. He did pretty well considering he doesn’t even remember riding the prelims!

The MX Nationals hit up a pretty wet Broome-Tioga track in NY this weekend where Josh Grant put in another solid ride in the 125 class, racking up a 6-5 moto score for sixth overall on the day. Josh is now fourth in the points race just 15 points back from Short in third and 21 points back from Alessi in second.

Kelly Smith earned is best overall finish so far this season in seventh and Brownie went 8-8 for eighth overall on the day. With Chad Reed out for preventative maintenance on his body for the ’06 supercross season, Travis Preston was the front runner for etnies in the 250 class taking the seventh overall spot. Preston has been on it all season with solid results and a couple fourth place finishes which put him fifth in the season points standings. Two rounds left and it’s anyone’s game in the 125 class and who knows, maybe we’ll see 250 podium from Preston, he’s due. Next Week: Steele City

Josh Grant, Kelly Smith, and Mike Brown battle for possition and end up finishing in this order overall.

125cc Overall

  1. Mike Alessi 1-1
  2. Broc Hepler 3-1
  3. Andrew Short 4-4
  4. Grant Langston 2-7
  5. Ivan Tedesco 7-3
  6. Josh Grant 6-5 etnies
  7. Kelly Smith 8-8 etnies
  8. Mike Brown 11-6 etnies
  9. Jason Lawrence 5-13
  10. Davi Millsaps 10-11

250cc Overall

  1. Ricky Carmichael 1-1
  2. Kevin Windham 2-2
  3. Ernesto Fonseca 8-3
  4. Michael Byrne 4-6
  5. David Vuillemin 9-4
  6. Robbie Reynard 6-7
  7. Travis Preston 5-8 etnies
  8. Nick Wey 8-9
  9. Ryan Hughes 15-3
  10. John Dowd 11-10

Photoshopped etnies Photos Competition

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, August 19, 2005
Congrats to Tam Mullen on spotting the imposter in the wallpaper. Everyone knows c00ler was too busy on the pot to go and watch Step Up. Good job Tam, you win free etnies and a pair of fox knee pads!
Just some of the goods that clutter the etnies office that we need to get rid of.

Tam won the first round hands down by finding c00ler's face in the new Deegan wallpaper, kind of like Where's Waldo? We have decided to continue randomly Photoshopping weird sh!t into etnies wallpapers and photos in the etnies blog and photo galleries. So if you are the first to spot an altered photo and call us out on it in the blog you will win something sweet. Note: It will never be as obvious as the last one because Tam got it way too quickly! It'll be a little more low pro, I may warn you about it or it could just randomly appear, so keep your eyes peeled and you could win some free stuff.

We have a ton of fox pads and gloves to give away, endless amounts of etnies, and No Fear stuff is on the way, plus even more goods in the near future. Always make sure to use your real email if you plan to collect.

Now that Twitch broke his second place streak last week in X Games Best Trick and knows the taste of gold, look for him to come out and stomp everyone in Freestyle on his way to the overall Dew championship. Also making an appearance will be Todd Potter, fresh off a full summer of demos, practicing and drinking, he could make a strong showing this weekend. Twitch and Potter have some new tricks that are insane!

Spring Creek MX National

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, August 12, 2005
Josh Grant

This weekend we get back to the roots of motocross with the AMA Motocross Nationals from Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, MN. No more jumping over man-made, made for TV obstacles like last week’s X Games. That was fun and all, but now it’s back to the real deal, outdoor motocross!

Brownie

Our boy Reed is out for the rest of the season after getting surgery to take some hardware out of his wrist. In second place and not too far behind leader Ivan Tedesco, Mike Brown is still in the hunt to win the 125 championship as a privateer. Josh Grant is also right there in the mix in fourth place, only one point behind Mike Alessi in third. But the battle for third won’t be easy by any means. Positions third thru seventh are separated by a mere twenty points and any one of those five riders can win races. At this point, with only four races remaining in the season, a moto win or a DNF can make or break you.

Check out the Live Webcast and Live Timing if you can’t make it out to the races this weekend.

Now that the Tour de France is over we get motocross back on OLN. Here is the TV schedule for the remainder of the moto season....

Chad Reed Out For The Outdoors

Posted by: Cropley | Thursday, August 11, 2005

After taking bronze at last week's X Games Supermoto event, Chad will be on the sidelines for a little while. He will be out the remainder of the outdoor national season due to surgery he underwent to take out some old hardware in his wrist. Chad is set to be back and better than ever by the US Open in October of 2005, and ready to take back the Supercross title in 2006.

X Games Supermoto

Reed pulls a huge holeshot and leads the first five laps.
Johnny was on his game after relaxing in the etnies motorhome before the race.

Supermoto was bad ass this year, all the big dogs came out including etnies riders Johnny Murphee (dirt track racer), Steve Drew, Chris Fillmore, and Factory Yamaha's Chad Reed. The race was one hour, which translated into about 40 laps, with one mandatory pit stop/tire change half way through on a technical course with about half street and half dirt.

Chad Reed took the holeshot and lead the race for about the first five laps until fellow Factory Yamaha teammate Doug Henry passed Chad for the lead. Henry checked out and won the race by over ten seconds, while Reed and McGrath battled the whole race for second place, or silver. McGrath made a huge pass on the down ramp stick and Reed rode to a Bronze Medal.

Congrats Chad on the Bronze Medal!

Steve Drew clears the big step over.

Check out the etnies X Games Supermoto Photo Gallery.

Twitch Got F'd Out Of A Freestyle Medal?

Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, August 9, 2005
Twitch claims it after his BF to side saddle landing off the 80' ramp jump...wouldn't you?

Maybe since I work at etnies I’m a little biased, but from what I saw (which was everything) there is no doubt that Twitch deserved a medal in Freestyle. Maybe the judges had one too many Mountain Dews to pay any attention? At least they were awake for Big Air. What do you guys think?

But first check out the etnies X Games Freestyle Photo Gallery.

Deegan Steppin' Up

Posted by: Cropley | Monday, August 8, 2005
Deegs clearing 28'

Deegan was invited to both Step Up and Big Air at X Games, but elected to sit out of Big Air due to his recent injuries. Brian did ride Step Up, and he put in a strong ride despite his bike setup problems that arose during practice only minutes before the event. Deegan’s mechanic made several trips back to the pits to change both the front and rear sprockets, but it still wasn’t right.

The etnies cloud art specialists took to the skys to support Deegan at Step Up.

Deegan decided to use his practice bike instead of the West Coast Choppers bike, which was setup a little different. Deegs cleared the first round height, but was eliminated along with Ronnie Renner in round two at 31’. Brian was over it, "I'm coming off a pretty gnarly injury, F#$% IT, I'm stoked to be back on a dirt bike."

Twitch Wins Big Air GOLD!!!

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, August 5, 2005

Twitch stole the show with his whiped backflip no footer to 1 hander lander. Twitch's smooth as hell tripple combo off the 90' dirt hit, which only he and Faisst flipped, was more than enough to beat out Pastrana's backflip saran-wrap to no hander lander off the 75' ramp and Adam's semi-weak 360. This is Twitch's first ever X Games Gold, we'll see if he earns a second gold Saturday night in Freestyle.

etnies' newest pro, Nikki Danielson, took seventh in his first X Games!

X Games Freestyle Practice

Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, August 3, 2005

The first round of X Games freestyle practice went down this afternoon. The course is sick with a couple pretty big dirt hits, the standard ramp hits, and a wall ride! Twitch said he was pretty pumped on the course and he was flippin' everything like it was nothin'. This is gunna be sick. Check back for an update and photos from the first big air practice later today.

Chad Reed crashed hard last Thursday while practicing at Glen Helen and had to miss last weekend's Washougal National. The only etnies rider in the 250 class for Washougal, with Reed being out, was Travis Preston who took seventh place with a strong 5-8 moto score.

In the 125/250F class Amsoil Chaparral Honda’s Josh Grant was right there battling in front after very good starts in each moto. Josh ended up fifth overall and Boost Mobile Yamaha of Troy rider Danny Smith rounded out the top ten.

What Happens In Vegas...

Posted by: Cropley | Monday, August 1, 2005

The Desert Assassins went to Las Vegas this weekend with the goal of winning in three different classes at the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup presented by McGraw Insurance. Thursday was press day and the Pit Crew Challenge where the Desert Assassins' wrench monkeys took the fourth place time for changing four of their 35” Yokohama tires on the #16 Desert Assassins, Lake Elsinore Casino, Cabo Wabo Trophy Truck.

The first day or racing saw Cameron Steele, who assumed driving duties for all three classes, winning his heat races in both class 12 and 1/2 1600 which prompted the IRL style victory doughnuts on the infield for the 8,000+ fans. The trophy truck had some mechanical problems in the heat race, got spun out in a tight corner in the first lap of the main and on the last lap, while making a comeback into the top four, the rear end of the truck clipped a cement barrier on the pavement portion on the 1.5 mile track, causing the right trailing arm to break, a FOX bypass to bend and a whole lot of other damage.

The new school redneck swimming pool.

Thanks to Timmy and Deckman for making the long drive all the way from Vegas to the San Clemente race shop and back for the spare parts, and a big thanks to the crew who stayed up all night working on the truck while the less responsible ones stayed up all night in town working on a buzz.

Race Day two was hot! I pulled up to the track Saturday expecting to see everyone working on the cars, but instead I stumbled upon a true redneck experience…a pick up truck swimming pool filled with half the race team and a couple hotties to combat any possible gay misconceptions. In 110 degree heat it turned out to be the best idea everrrrrr, until BR turned the water yellow. The crew must have seen these rednecks geniuses and been inspired. As the weather got cooler with night fall, the racing heated up for main event where Cameron won a 1/2 1600 heat race but had some mechanical problems in the main. In trophy trucks Cameron Steele and rival Rob MacCachren were by far the fastest. On the restart of the trophy truck final it was Cameron out in front with Rob close behind until Rob dropped out of the race and another red flag came out, causing yet another restart. Cameron was up front for the restart with Marty Coyne and Scott Steinberger just behind him. In one of the hair pin turns Coyne pushed the Desert Assassins #16 truck and made the pass, then had a hard bump from Jesse Jones which spun him for the full turn around. Cameron finished in fifth in trophy truck. The team deffinatly had a target on its back after all the trash talk and nerfing, but that's racing.
