Red Bud National This Weekend

Posted by: Cropley | Thursday, June 30, 2005

After Budds Creek everyone got a weekend off to rest up and do some extra training for this weekend at Red Bud. Mike Brown is on a roll; he won the overall at Red Bud last year and has a ton of momentum coming off his win last week at Budds Creek. Also the fact that he’s leading the 125 series by 27 points as a privateer and training with RC every day doesn’t hurt either. Two wins in a row shouldn't be a problem for Brownie.

Tune into the Live Webcast and Live Timing so you can follow all the action as it happens.

While you’re already sitting on the computer chatting online with babes all day, listening to the Live Webcast and watching Live Timing, take your sweet web nerd skills to the next level and stay updated to etnies.com with our RSS Newsfeed. Some Moto News

Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, June 28, 2005

Last Sunday, June 26 the Gravity Games took place at Camp Woodward in Pennsylvania. The fan attendance and press was nothing like previous Gravity Games due to the remote location, but still some of the best riders in the world showed up to try their chances at Gravity Games gold. Twitch killed it and took a silver medal in both the Freestyle and Best Trick competitions.

  2. Twitch etnies
  3. Ronny Renner
  4. Brian Foster
  5. Matt Buyten
  6. Myles Richmond
  7. Beau Bamberg
  8. Brian Dowdy
  9. Adam Jones
  10. Jim McNeil
  11. Ronnie Faisst

Another event held last Sunday, which definitely had more fans in attendance than Gravity, was the Costa Mesa Speedway Freestyle demo. A few times each Speedway season ‘Rad’ Brad Oxley, the former Speedway champ and current owner of Costa Mesa Speedway, invites some of the boys to come out and put on a show for the fans. This weekend it was Garland, Potter, Ox, Fluffer, Eric Woods, Taylor Sterner and Gram Gustin going big. Practice went off with out a hitch and everyone was riding sick. Ox, who’s bike was having problems prior to the night show, was going for a backflip on his second jump of the night when the bike sputtered before the ramp sending him off his bike to land in the flats from 30 feet in the air. Ox suffered a compound fracture to his femur and a bruised/partly collapsed lung. He is still in the hospital recovering from surgery but will be out soon and will fully recover in a few months.

And the Weiners Are!

statue
This is one of two submissions from the same kid in Portugal. He also sent the water fountain photo below on the right. Not only were these the two funniest efforts, they also were the best efforts that didn't use Photoshop. I mean, he got down to his undies and humped a statue in public for the cause. At least this kid gets out of the house.

It wasn't easy, and it took longer than we thought, but here's the winners of the etnies.com Crazy Photo Contest and some explanations as to why they were chosen. Thanks to all who entered, lots of you made us laugh. There will be plenty more contests to enter in so stay tuned. One side note: You winners are about to get some email from us with details on how to claim your prizes. If we don't hear from you in two weeks from the day we send the email, we have to pick another winner. Slacking=forfeiting!

peeing
Submitting one photo good enough to get our attention is no simple task. But this guy sent two bangers in, hence earning himself first place and three pairs of etnies kicks. We also like that, other than skating, the only stuff on his brain is sexual and toilet-related hijinx. I wonder who drank from this fountain after the photo was shot?
doggy blunt
Most Photoshop entries were kinda janky, which actually makes them really funny. A "doggy front blunt" down a nine-stair rail is pretty damn sick. And hilarious to boot. Yes, the dog is wearing etnies. I think we might even sponsor him. I wonder if he landed it? Is that a skateboard or a toboggan he's riding? This effort earned a pair of etnies.
breeding
This photo has nothing to do with skating. I'm not sure it has anything to do with anything. If it was two horses or cats mating, it sure as hell wouldn't have been as funny. It won a lot of votes because it was the randomest, funniest scenario submitted to us. Who even knew llamas rocked etnies? Homeboy only wins one pair of etnies, so he's gonna have to buy a pair if he wants to hook up both llamas.
blowtorch
Once again, horribly done in Photoshop, but brilliantly primitive and downright funny. Blowing fire out of your ass while wearing Artos. Classic. One pair of etnies for you my friend, just keep them in a fire-proof area!

The Chris Ackerman Poker Tournament Went Off!

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, June 24, 2005
Ackerman was stoked on the huge turn out of friends and family.
Kinnaird and the rest of the guys went off riding for the crowd over the Freeride Tech ramps.

The Chris Ackerman Poker Tournament went off Wendsday night at the Lake Elsinore Casino, and with the help of everyone involved, especially Lake Elsinore Casino, everyone raised over $20,000 for Chris and had a great time doing it.

A big crowd turned out to watch the freestyle demo put on by some of the best riders in the world, like Dayne Kinnaird, OX, Todd Potter, Fluffer, Derek Garland, Scummy, Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Taylor Sterner and Luke Urek. All of ‘em were going nuts over the 80 foot Freeride Technology ramp-to-ramp. Deegan also made an appearance to hang out, sign some autographs and help rev-up the crowd on the mic. There were tons of industry players, good friends and random cool people there to support Chris and try their luck at the 120+ player tournament and the $15,000 top 20 payout.

The tournament didn’t have the normal overly serious poker vibe that a WSOP or even a local tournament would have. Everyone was loud, having fun and definitely making the old locals a little nervous. Half the final table was made up of poker guys that play big tournaments every night of the week and the other half were friends of Chris there to collect him some extra cash. Most of the players that won some cash were generous enough to donate most or all of their winnings back to Chris, which was not mandatory, but was very cool. Thanks to all that were there to watch the riding, play poker, and show their support!

Check out the Photo Gallery!

Some of the people that came out to support the cause: Deegan, Ryan Sheckler, OX, Grant Langston, Jimmy Button, Nate Adams, Dayne Kinnaird, Seth Enslow, Scummy, Jeff Tilton, Beau Manley, Twitch, Fluffer, Faisst, Todd Potter, Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Brian Manley, Cameron Steele, Taylor Sterner, Derek Garland, Luke Urek, Erik Apple, Stephen Murray etc. etc... and a ton more.

Mike Brown Wins 125 Overall at Budds Creek

Posted by: Cropley | Monday, June 20, 2005

Coming off his first ever 250 moto win last weekend in Southwick, Chad Reed came to Budds Creek ready to add another win to the list. But this weekend it was not to be, Reed finished second place overall by getting third in moto one and second in moto two over Bubba. Chad is currently second in points for the season.

Sunday was Father’s Day and what could be a better gift for dad than winning an AMA motocross national and having your son on the podium with you? Just ask Mike Brown because that’s just what happened on Sunday. Mike won the first moto and got third the second moto for his first overall win this season. Mike brought his son Brandon up on the podium to celebrate the win and Father’s Day together.

Josh Grant scored his first ever moto win in moto two at Budds Creek. Josh pulled the holeshot and checked out for the moto win and third overall for the day. Congrats to Brown, Reed and Grant on going one, two and three in their respective classes.

AMA Motocross From Budds Creek

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, June 17, 2005

Hey! The Budds Creek AMA National is this weekend! Mike Brown had been training hard at RC’s house lately and I predict the etnies 125 privateer point’s leader will kick ass this weekend, but that’s a pretty easy prediction to make since he’s been consistent all season. Also, fresh off his first ever 250 National moto win, watch out for Reed, he’s tasted blood and wants more in the form of moto wins and an overall.

Don’t miss one second of it, tune in to the Racer X Live Webcast on Sunday afternoon to hear all the action from Budds Creek, MD. The webcast starts at 12:30 p.m. (EST), and the motos start at 1:00 p.m.

A Revolution In FMX

Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, June 15, 2005
I saw this photo a while ago. The forks and head set are completely different but both bikes allow the bars to spin. Who knows if either setup works?

Someone says “barspin” and you think of BMX, right? Well soon you could be thinking of BMX and FMX. A French inventor came up with a gyro fork setup that will allow the bars of a dirt bike to do a full revolution. The revolution of handle bars on a dirt bike could mean a future revolution in freestyle motocross. Think about it… seat grab barspin, BMX style turndown whips, backflip barspin…the possibilities are endless and contests would never be the same. Who knows if it will ever catch on or even work, but it would be cool to see what Twitch could do on one of those.

Check it out.

Reed Gets His First 250 Outdoor Moto Win!

Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, June 14, 2005

The sand and heat of Southwick took a toll on some of the top riders in the world. Some of the names next to the DNF’s are normally seen in the top ten, but with heat and humidity both well into the nineties even the most conditioned athlete can have trouble. Except maybe Chad Reed, who rode strong for his first ever 250 outdoor moto win which broke RC’s 31 moto winning streak.

Mike Brown put in a solid 4-3 ride for second overall and still leads the series by 25 points over Grant Langston.

Twitch Dominates The Dew

Potter and Twitch

The first round of the five stop Dew Action Sports Tour kicked off this weekend in Kentucky. Twitch, with his new gear sponsor Thor/Parts Unlimited, kicked ass! Twitch got second place in the finals, less than a point behind the winner and live on the TV screens of the huge NBC audience.

Todd Potter qualified second in the prelims but just missed out on one of the ten qualifying spots for the big money of the finals. Oh well, Todd got some points and is in for the rest of the tour so he will have a chance to show what he’s got at the next stop in Denver…maybe a backflip???

Moto-Troubles in Riverside County

Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, June 8, 2005
If this passes we could all miss out on more photos like this.

A $1,000 fine and/or jail for riding in Riverside County California! That is what we're looking at if a very few amount of people have their way in determining what is best for the majority in Riverside County. The Riverside Planning Commission is set to vote to approve ordinance 348.4213. This ordinance, if passed, will establish that it is unlawful for any person to operate any motor-driven off-highway vehicle in the county. Regardless of where you live, we need to let our lawmakers know how we feel about this. There is a planning meeting set for July 6 in Riverside. Before then, e-mail the planning director Mark Balys at MBALYS@rctlma.org and let him know how you feel about this issue. If this passes through the planning commission it will go before the board of supervisors for final approval, so we should act now to stop this. You can also contact (951) 955-3150 or Mitra Mehta at (951) 955-8514 or e-mail mmehta@rctlma.org with your opinions.
Click here to download the actual ordinance.

Here is a sample e-mail to Mr. Balys:

Mr. Balys,

My name is____________ I reside, work and own a home in Riverside County. I am very disappointed in what I see in ordinance #348-4213. I believe this ordinance to not be the opinion of the majority of the residents of Riverside County but a fanatical few. I support responsible activities on our own land and do not think that this ordinance does this at all. I ask that you and the rest of the commission look this over intently and see it for what it truly is: a vendetta by a very select few in Riverside County. Please consider all land and home owners in Riverside County and not just this small group.

Thank you for your time.

Best regards,

Desert Assassins Win In Baja!

Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, June 7, 2005

The 2005 Baja 500 goes down as one of the greatest off road races to date, with 345 entries the sport continues to explode and the Desert Assassins were there with three vehicles to help expand the excitement.

Baja 500 winning buggy #1401

For this years event Cameron Steele drove in both the #16 trophy truck, which he is driver of record on, with partner Clyde Stout and Rick Taylor and he also started the race in the #2 trophy truck of Pete Sohren. However it was the third entry of the team, Heidi Steele and Justin Smith, that did the team proud and brought home the win in sportsman buggy in a time of just over 16 hours, bringing them across the finish line at 3:30am Sunday morning.

While the trucks were racing the pit crews made sure every Mexican local had plenty of etnies stickers.

Trophy Truck #16 is a newly created beast that is now engineered by Tim Carroll, formerly of Rivera racing and team owner Clyde Stout. The truck was basically cut off at all four corners and built since the San Felipe 250 in February. The great news is that the team was in the mix as they continued through the 286 mile marker at Valley Trinidad, timing is still coming in but it is estimated that they were inside the top 8. A broken sector shaft in the steering box would put them down two and a half hours at the top of the goat trail and they would then cruise home for 15th. The new set up is awesome and the FOX Shox were spot on. There was not one failure in the new set up.

Clyde throws roost on the crew as he leaves the driver change with fresh Yokohama’s on the rear.

Trophy Truck #2 had an eventful day as Cameron was first off the line with Robby Gordon and Jason Baldwin close behind. At mile marker 35, Ojos Negros, unofficial timing had the team putting time on the rest of the class and extending their fresh air gap. The truck had a computer/crank trigger problem that would shut the truck off occasionally and would progressively get worse. After a flat tire at mile marker 60ish Gordon got by but the top three trucks would be locked together in a battle through Erendira, Race Mile 115, where there was a space back to the fourth truck on the road. As the day progressed the firing problem would get worse and the truck would shut off about every 40 seconds until the 180 mile marker where Rick Geiser made adjustments and got the truck running. Pistol Pete would take her home from there and raced up into the group of trucks until a rear hub assembly would cost him the day just before the highway at Trinidad.

Baja 500 Champion Heidi Steele!

1401 was the number for Heidi and Justin's race car as Heidi drove the first 145 miles and was clearly leading on time as she raced through the crowds at Ojos Negros. A bottle neck in the beach silt would hold her up as would a fix on a stuck throttle cable but she still brought the car to Justin in the lead. Justin, A.K.A. Bean, then led the charge to Mikes Sky Ranch where a 50 car bottle neck would take hours out of their day. In the end they would earn the win and Heidi would become the only female winner at this years Baja 500!

The week was also filled with TV cameras as the team took the producers of the new television package for SCORE on some rides and showed them what the Trophy Trucks could do. The stories that were shot for this event on our team included interviews with us at our hotel and in the wash with the Mexican fans as we did the jump and handed out posters.

Next up for the team is the FUD series Plaster City event this weekend in the #16 truck and Heidi's buggy as they will take the cars there with little prep for a fun low stress weekend of racing and hanging with the fans. From there it is the SCORE Vegas event which is the last weekend of July and will feature a short course style series of races.

TT #16 would like to thank....Cabo Wabo Tequila, Lake Elsinore Casino, Yokohama Tire Corporation, Board Ford, FOX Racing Shox, Lightforce, Prudential California Realty, American Racing Wheel ATX series, Weekend Warrior, Mad Graphix, Lucas Oil, VP Racing Fuel, UNI, Prep By Jake, ECS, StoutIndustry, Hi-Tech On Board Video, etnies, McKenzies, and the Metal Mulisha.

Deegan On The Mend

Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, June 7, 2005
Check the scar!

As most of you may know, Brian Deegan had a big crash a few weeks ago during an upcoming episode of 'Viva La Bam'. Brian under-rotated a backflip in very windy conditions while filming. His bars hit him hard in the mid-section and after feeling internal pain he was rushed to a near by hospital. The crash caused an arterial tear on one of his kidneys, a lacerated spleen and a significant amount of blood loss. As a result the doctors removed the damaged kidney and were fortunately able to save his spleen.

Brian is now back home and expects a strong and full recovery. Brian says, "Yes, I will ride again."

Moto On TV This Week.

Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, June 1, 2005

The AMA Motocross series is taking a break this weekend but will be back the weekend of June 12 to Southwick, MA for some good old sand racing.

So you can't handle one weekend with out watching moto? Go ride you loser! If you're too lazy, take a ride on your couch and watch the races on OLN. If you are really smart set your TiVo, go riding and then watch it later.

The series has moved their TV broadcast from ESPN over to OLN. Some people like the change, others don’t, but either way there are dirt bikes racing on TV! No complaints over here except that we have to wait a week or more to watch, no biggy.

OLN doesn’t specify if the times are eastern or pacific time. I assume they are eastern but just in case “check your local listings”.
