Supercross and Superbike This Weekend

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, April 29, 2005

Supercross is back to Houston this week after a week off and now with only two rounds to go and the championship still on the line the racing will be off the hook. For Chad Reed to have a chance at the championship he needs to win and Carmichael needs finish off the podium. Look for Reed to come out swinging and make this weekend his third consecutive win at Houston.

Red Bull X-Fighters

Twitch gets his Floyd-Mulisha shoes shined in Mexico City.

Jeremy Stenberg knew he was in for a good time when he found out he was being flown to the 2005 Red Bull X Fighters on a Gulfstream G-IV. Red Bull chartered the private jet to fly riders, media people and other VIP’s to and from their event that took place in Mexico City on April 22. For several years now this event had taken place in Spain. This year Red Bull decided the time was right to bring their popular freestyle event to the America’s. etnies’ Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg was one of the fortunate few that received an invite to compete in the Mexican Capital’s Plaza de Toros arena. Twitch was there to win and said, “Screw the prize money I’m here to put on a good show and take home a first place trophy.” Stenberg had a good time, put on a fantastic show but came up just a bit shy of first place by only .02 of a point! Twitch says he’ll have revenge at the next Red Bull X Fighters which will take place in Madrid Spain on July 21.

Costa Mesa Speedway FMX Demo

Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, April 27, 2005

Check out the freestyle demo at the Costa Mesa Speedway this Saturday April 30 and watch the speedway riders wad themselves up, it’s pretty entertaining. But make sure to hang around and watch etnies rider Derek Garland and the rest of the FMX goons steal the show and get nuts for the fans.

Racing starts at 7:30, the freestyle demo is about half way through the show and the pits open up for autographs and beer at the end. Tickets are cheap but they get sold out quick so show up a little early.

Zemke and Hayden Win at Barber

Posted by: Cropley | Monday, April 25, 2005

The etnies road racers kicked ass this weekend as predicted. In the Supersport final Tommy and Roger Hayden took second and third place. Tommy was right behind the leader Jamie Hacking up to the last lap where he made an attempt for the lead on the last turn but Jamie held his lead for the win and Tommy took second.

Jake Zemke won the Formula Xtreme race and Tommy Hayden came back from behind to win the Superstock race.

Chad Reed Scores the Cover of Racer X

Posted by: Cropley | Thursday, April 21, 2005

Racer X has done it again with the new June ’05 issue which has Chad Reed on the cover. As with most cover shots a feature article of the rider follows, and Chad is featured in two stories for his back to back Supercross wins in Florida. etnies rider Brett Metcalfe also has a feature story about him being the last factory-backed 125 rider in the 125/250F class and Davey Coombs wrote good column about our late friend Anthony Cappa on page 92.

If you are a subscriber make sure to check the mail this week and if not go to the website and subscribe because this issue is packed with the goods.

Seattle Supercross Report

Posted by: Cropley | Monday, April 18, 2005

The Supercross series hit the North West on Saturday night and as expected it was very wet. With rain all week before the race, the skies finally cleared the afternoon of the race and held up through the night. But the weather held up much better than the track conditions did. The tarps covering the track diverted much of the water, but all the moisture made for some very soft dirt which turned into very deep ruts by the main events.

LaRocco

Chad Reed had a tough night falling in his heat race in some very rutted out whoops, falling way behind and missing the final transfer spot by only one position. Because of his poor finish in the heat race, Chad didn’t get a very good gate pick for the main event and had to start from the outside. On the start of the 250 main Chad was right up front with Bubba and Windham into the first turn but got bumped by Bubba and he and his bike were thrown over the berm. When Reed finally got up and going he was in dead last place with Bubba, Carmichael and Windham up front.

From last place Reed charged through the deep ruts and weaved his way past the squirrelly field of riders to come back and finish fourth place and within 1.5 seconds of Carmichael who finished third.

Mike LaRocco rode solid and consistent hoping for a repeat of his performance at Anaheim 1 where the track and weather conditions were similar to this weekend. Unfortunately the top three also rode very consistent too, but Mike was right there in the hunt and ready to capitalize if any made a mistake. Riding smart is just why LaRocco has been on top for so long and is currently second in the World Supercross GP points and fourth in the AMA Supercross points.

In the 125 class, etnies riders Billy Laninovich and Brett Metcalfe rode very strong but both had some problems early on and finished sixth and eighth respectively.

Watch Supercross and be Cool!

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, April 15, 2005

Chad Reed dominated the Pontiac Supercross last weekend and took the win over Carmichael, Windham and Bubba. But it was not just handed to him; Chad started back in the pack and got passed by Bubba early on. Bubba crashed soon after and then Chad proceeded to pick off Carmichael and Windham for the win. Chad put himself three points closer to Carmichael in his hunt for the championship and the momentum is back in Reed’s corner. The next round is Saturday night at Qwest Field in Seattle and the weather forecast shows a 100% chance of precipitation on race day, which means the race could be a repeat of the weather conditions from Anaheim1. In that case, it is anyone’s race. Muddy conditions can mean big mistakes and bad results, which is exactly what Reed is banking on for Carmichael to do so he can gain some points.

The last race of the 125 East series was last week in Pontiac, and Grant Langston took the Championship over etnies rider Josh Hansen. Josh dominated the last race and won, Langston got fourth, which put the riders into a tie for points bringing the title down to a tie breaker. Langston’s three race wins got him the championship over Hansen’s two.

The 125 series goes back to the west coast for two rounds before the 125 shoot out in Las Vegas. etnies riders Billy Laninovich, Danny Smith, Tommy Hahn and Brett Metcalfe are all sitting in the top ten and are possible contenders in the west.

If you can’t be in Seattle or just don’t want to sit in the rain at least listen live online to the Supercross LIVE! Audio Webcast Saturday night starting at 7:00 pm PT. The view of Glen Helen from space

A couple weeks ago a fellow web dept. dork informed me that Google now has satellite imaging and he sent me a link to a satellite photo of Anaheim Stadium while Supercross was taking place. I thought this was pretty damn cool, so this week I did some further satellite goggling of some of the best So-Cal riding spots.

I know that you slackers at home have nothing but time, so go check out Google Maps and find some satellite photos of your favorite track or riding spot. EMAIL etnies the link with a brief description of what we are looking at and we will post a bunch of the links and text for everyone to check out in the news next week.

If you zoom in on Beaumont or Ocotillo and if you know the area, you can see all the trails and know exactly where all the jumps and hill climbs are. Pretty cool. Check it out...

etnies Riders Sweep Pontiac Supercross!

Posted by: Cropley | Monday, April 11, 2005

Pontiac was the last round of the 125 East Supercross series and coming into it Josh Hansen was seven points behind the leader Grant Langston. The previous round in Dallas was filled with high school like drama and a good old fist fight behind the school house. Hansen, who knew he had a good chance at his first championship, was not going to let anything distract him from his goal. Josh did exactly was he had to do to make his title hopes a reality, he won the final round. But unfortunately for Josh, Langston ended up finishing in fourth place which put the two riders in a tie for points and the championship came down to a tie breaker. Langston took home the championship with his three wins on the season vs. Hansen’s two wins.

Joaquim Rodrigues also did a great job by getting his first ever podium with third place.

Kelly Smith pulled a holeshot in every race he was in last night. He got the holeshot in heat two and in the main event to finished sixth for the event and fifth in the 125 East points.

Congrats to Hansen for making the huge effort and coming so close to the championship…everyone better watch out next year.

Chad Reed pulled off a hat-trick for Pontiac Supercross wins with his third in a row at that venue. Chad had a shaky start to the night with a second place finish in his heat race behind Kevin Windham and not the best start in the main. But once the tack conditions settled in and Reed got comfortable the domination began. Reed brought Carmichael to a standstill with a huge pass in the elevated corner for second place. Reed then caught up with leader Kevin Windham who he battled with for several laps before taking over the lead where he would finish. Chad is now within 28 points of Carmichael for the Supercross series points with three rounds to go.

Mike LaRocco got a strong fifth place finish in Pontiac and is currently fourth in the overall points close behind Windham.

Watch and Listen to Supercross This Weekend!

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, April 8, 2005

Last week Dallas Supercross was dominated by Bubba Stewart, but the real race was behind him for the championship. Reed was in front of Carmichael on the last lap when he had trouble passing a lap rider and fell, giving Ricky second place and an extra two points toward the championship. With only four rounds left in the 250cc AMA Supercross series and 31 points behind Carmichael, look for Reed to step up his game and make things happen.

Josh Grant and Josh Hansen had a little scuffle in a hotel parking lot after they crashed into each other at the Dallas race. The incident caused plenty of embarrassment for both teams and both incurred cash fines from the AMA. This weekend in Pontiac, MI could be one of the cleanest and nicest races or it could be a full blown 15 lap demolition derby. My money is on a demo derby considering it is the last round of the 125 east series and the top three are only separated by ten points.

If you can’t be in Pontiac to see the racing live at least listen live online to the Supercross LIVE! Audio Webcast Saturday night starting at 7:00 pm ET. Also make sure to tune into the next day Supercross TV broadcast Sunday on ESPN2 starting with the 125’s at 5:00 pm ET and the 250’s at 6:00 pm ET.

Attention February Newsletter Contest Winners! Where Are You?

Posted by: Brink | Wednesday, April 6, 2005

We contacted five of you etnies newsletter subscribers last month because you were picked to win free etnies and only one winner wrote back! Thomas (we don't print last names) from Colbert, Washington. Congrats, Thomas! Tom likes to ride motocross, in case anyone wanted to know. And he's cool because he's an etnies newsletter subscriber!

So basically, all this nonsense means that we are picking four more winners this week. Keep your fingers crossed and you might get a call or email from us offering you a free pair of etnies soon! There's also no reason you should't be entering the Crazy Photo Contest to be trying to win free etnies as well.

Crazy Photo Contest Extended! Stop Sucking!

Posted by: Brink | Tuesday, April 5, 2005
trials rider
Yea man, do an endo onto some girl's crotch!
bmxboobs
Yea yea, this chick likes BMX! Breasts and Bikes! That's a good name for a website.

People! Listen! There's not much time left. Don't you want free shoes and fame? After the last photo posting on here, it looked like people were finally getting the hang of this and we got some submissions that actually made us giggle. But now y'all are back to the usual slackin' off. You half asses!

There's like 12 of you, out of hundreds, who actually obeyed the rules. Which means that three out of those five will win shoes. What kinda crap is that?

I want to be able to give you free shoes and show your photo skills to the entire world. Don't you realize the power of etnies.com? 400 kids called town hall freaking out last week when I pranked their asses for April Fool's Day. That's at least 400 people that will see your work!

We love laughing 'till we cry, but not laughing at you. We want to laugh with you 'cuz your submission is so damn funny! Where's the comedy? Where's the inspiration and creativity? Where's the desire to win free etnies? Stop sucking and get photivated! So get this: In attempts to be fun and fair and get your brains in gear, we are extending the contest until mid-April. This gives you nearly tow more weeks to impress the hell out of us one last time. Do it, or we'll never extend a contest again.

thong
Is this a walk home from school on the "average" day? Maybe I am too old or something, but do you kids usually wear your jock straps outside of school?

The final day for submissions is now Sunday, April 17. So when I get back in the office on Monday, I better be cracking up at what I see or else I might just let nobody win. Muahahhahahahahahah!

Here's a few hints:

  • The photo needs to have a pair of etnies in it. DUH! At least get an etnies logo in there somehow and show us you're trying.
  • Don't steal a photo off of the internet and send it to us. We aren't that stupid.
The pictures of hot chicks are great, keep 'em coming. We're thankful, but just make sure they have etnies on, otherwise we're just gonna forward the photo all over the office and then toss it.
  • If the etnies in the photo arent visible or can be proven to be etnies, we can't allow you to win.
  • No one said you can't use Photoshop. Wink wink.
  • Smaller-sized files would load faster and help me get home from the office before midnight.
  • Don't copy what you have already seen us post here. If we've posted it, it has already been done. Be original or you suck.

hitler
Um...weird. For the record, etnies never sponsored a Hitler. We prefer non-racists team riders.
moto photoshop
This is just the absolute worst of the Photoshop attempts.
tuff
Woah, easy there tough guy. You can't be that rough if you hang a pink Bam Margera poster in your room anyway.
pumpkin dog
Kinda cute, but no etnies shoes. LOSER! Although the pumpkin carving skills are second-to none.
blowtorch ass
This is just downright outrageous!
snake in the pants
Dude, this is getting out of hand! You put a snake in your pants? I think you meant to submit to some "other" type of site.
hot chick
Yet another hot chick with her body painted. If you can set me up me to be the body painter on her next photo shoot, you'll automatically win the contest.
Checkout those thugs! Their ghetto gowns are in full effect! Yo yo G-Unit in the hizzy my nizzle fo shizzle!

Dallas Supercross Report

Posted by: Cropley | Monday, April 4, 2005

Chad Reed came into the Dallas Supercross with tons of confidence and some of the fastest laps in practice close behind those of Bubba’s. But contrary to the TWMX April fools joke, no points are awarded for “winning” practice. So it all came down to the main event, as it does every weekend, to see who would emerge victorious with the next AMA Supercross win and the points needed for the championship.

The competition has been really tight lately, but Reed has come out with wins in the last two races coming into Dallas, but he just couldn’t put it together for a third win in a row. Bubba set a blistering pace in the first seven laps opening a gap of eight seconds over Reed. Early on, Reed made a mistake in the whoops allowing Carmichael to pass him. Reed quickly recovered and passed Carmichael back. Reed, with Carmichael close behind, was on a mission and set some of the fastest laps in the main and narrowed the lead of Stewarts. By the last lap it was clear that Chad and Ricky were battling for second place and the all important two points that second place receives over third place for the championship. Unfortunately, on the last lap while attempting a pass on a lap rider, Reed went down and gave second place to Ricky.

Mike LaRocco rode very strong as always and finished fifth behind the top three and an impressive Sebastien Tortelli. LaRocco sits fourth in the Supercross points standings.

Hansen

The 125 races were also fun filled and exciting including the qualifiers. In heat 1 Davi Millsaps and Josh Hansen were going back and forth for a few laps and in each corner they were block passing and brake checking each other. Finally Hansen came inside in a debatable maneuver and Millsaps ended up on the other side of the berm. Just after that incident, Josh Grant caught up to etnies teammate Josh Hansen and took them both out. Grant didn’t end up finishing the heat race because of damage to his bike and also crashed out of the LCQ therefore failing to qualify for the main. Some words and contact were exchanged between Hansen and Grant after the race.

Sellards

Coming into the Dallas round of the 125cc East Supercross Grant Langston and Josh Hansen were tied for first place in points. Langston took the win and sole possession of the points lead while Hansen finished fourth and dropped to second in points seven points behind Langston and only three points in front of Millsaps. The final round of the AMA Supercross 125 East Series is next weekend in Pontiac, MI and will no doubt be a slug fest between the top three for the championship.

Kelly Smith took seventh and Brock Sellards got eighth in his first race back since having his tonsils removed.

AMA Supercross Series Postponed!

Posted by: Cropley | Friday, April 1, 2005

Plans for construction of the new seating were just released by the UNLV freshman architecture class in charge of the project.

Due to the huge amount of excitement generated by the comeback of Bubba and the great racing of Reed and Carmichael, AMA officials have decided to postpone the remainder of the series until May 7 for the final round at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. The top 21 riders in the current standings will compete in a final winner-take-all race for the championship. All series points are now thrown out and the winner of the showdown will be the Supercross champion.

“We are very excited about this innovative way to wrap up the series. I believe that putting everything on the line in one race will make for some great racing.” Said an AMA official. “We have also decided not to enforce any of our usually strict rules in an attempt to promote dirty racing and take-out maneuvers which the fans really love.”

In anticipation for a huge turn out, Sam Boyd himself approved the immediate construction of 20,000 additional seats at the stadium.

If we at least tricked someone it was worth it. Haha, suckers. No the series is not canceled, it’s April Fools Day you fools. It is going on as scheduled at Texas Stadium in Irving, TX.

Listen to the Supercross LIVE! Audio Webcast on Saturday night at 5pm PT/ 8pm ET.
