'The Surreal Life' Gets a Taste of Some Real Life
Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, March 30, 2005
- The cast of The Surreal Life 5.
VH1 just announced that the fifth season of ‘The Surreal Life’ is currently in production. If you haven’t seen ‘The Surreal Life,’ it is a group of C-list has-beens that live together in a mansion, do stupid shit and act like idiots. In addition to the standard washed up musicians, reality TV and movie stars, the new season will feature retired freestyle motocross legend and non C-lister Carey Hart, who pulled the first ever back flip on a 250cc motorcycle. Others staring in the show are 'America's Next Top Model' judge Janice Dickinson, Sandi Pepa from Salt-n-Pepa, Omarosa from the 'The Apprentice,' Bronson Pinchot from 'Perfect Strangers,' British model Caprice and former baseball cheater and meat head Jose Canseco.
The show definitely has the potential to be entertaining and it will be interesting to see how Hart handles all those freaks. I got five bucks that says Jose Canseco gets Hart hooked on steroids and he tries to make another comeback to freestyle at Summer X. Any takers?
Hey Donkeys! Check the Moto News
Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, March 29, 2005Supercross had the weekend off due to the Easter holiday, but the show is coming back this weekend in Dallas, TX. Chad Reed has a ton of momentum going into the Dallas race after winning the last two races in Daytona and Orlando. Also adding to his momentum, Reed has won in Dallas the last two years in a row and if he wins again on Saturday he will be the only rider to ever win the Dallas Supercross three years in a row. Chad is currently second in points but if he keeps winning and Bubba gets between him and Carmichael in the results he could make a come back for the championship.
Josh Hansen got third place in Orlando and is in the hunt for the 125 east championship tied for first with Grant Langston.
Trigger went riding out in Beaumont on Saturday with Cameron and Garland. Check out the photos. He will be going to Australia in early May for the Day of Records where he will break his own 500cc world record then go on the Crusty Tour from there.

- Fluffer, Deegan, Urek, Potter and Faisst sippin’ on some beers at the after party
The Mulisha was in Tasmania on Sunday for the second stop of their World Recruitment Tour. They were riding like mad men for the sold out crowd who in return were going ape-shit. Rumor has it that one of the Mulisha heavy hitters rode on top of the landing, pounded a VB (an Australian beer) and then busted a huge rock-solid. Deegan and Twitch were pulling side by side whipped flips and Kinnaird was doing some insane combos. At the after party there were bar fights, choke outs and even a girl fight. When the Mulisha Mafia got kicked out in the wee hours, the whole bar emptied onto the streets. The guys are now in Melbourne where the third stop of the tour will take place on April 1.
Moto Team Report From Beaumont
Posted by: Cropley | Monday, March 28, 2005
- Stands are for pansies; Garland just turns off his gas and lays it in the dirt.
With no Supercross this weekend I was wondering what I would write about for news on Monday. I usually write about the results and stories that come up about etnies riders in Supercross over the weekend. But etnies also has a lot of other riders that don’t race Supercross or win X games every year that are just as cool, well almost.

- When Cameron's race team isn't landing upside down in the trophy truck, he gets upside down on his RM
Friday night, on my way home from the office I got a call from my good friend, etnies rider and ESPN TV dork Cameron Steele. “Hey pussy let’s go to Beaumont. The dirt’s crip, be at my house tomorrow by 5:30.” Beep. Well that settled that, I would do a team report on riding in the hills with Cameron, Derek Garland and Trigger Gumm, all etnies guys and all bad ass riders.
So I called off all booty calls, washed my rotting gear, charged my camera batteries and got to bed early (12:00am) in hopes of tacky dirt and perfect kickers. We got there and the dirt was as good as I have seen ever seen it, day old chocolate cake (just a little dry on top) and the weather was perfect. The only problem was that with so much rain the hills were overgrown. No worries, we all brought our 250cc weed whackers.
On our first ride, Trig got t-boned by our friend North who happened to be riding by in 5th gear where Trig was jumping out of this little ravine. Considering North was thrown 30ft away and Trig landed ass first in an extremely sharp rock garden, they were lucky no one was hurt too badly. Both were alright enough to ride another session and hit some kickers. Trigger will be leaving to Australia in early May where he will break his own 500cc world record at the Day of Records and then go on the whole Crusty tour.

- Garland
Derek Garland is an up and coming Mulisha rider and when not practicing on the ramps at the Mulisha compound or doing demos around the world, he will show up in the desert or the hills and boost bigger than anyone. Derek will be riding some freestyle demos at the Long Beach Grand Prix from April 7-10.
Well know for his golden tongue on the microphone, trophy truck racing and not answering phone calls, Cameron is also a damn good rider. Always taking a line up a hill that looks impossible, getting to the top first try and waiting up there heckling everyone while we tumble our bikes down vertical cliffs in attempts to reach the top. He can always find that perfect transition hidden in some bushes that no one would have ever seen, dig it out with his boot and then lay down some flatty whips. Cameron has been off from announcing Supercross the past few weeks because of the IRL, but he will be back on the Supercross broadcast for the Pontiac Supercross on April 9.
See the rest of the photos from Beaumont in the photo gallery.

The Photo Entries Are Getting a Little Better...
Posted by: Brink | Thursday, March 24, 2005
- Gay humor is so hip nowadays, however, we can't make out what shoes these fellas are wearing, so they lose.

- Have you ever seen a photo this hot? The best effort (that didn't obey the rules) so far.
People! Listen! There's not much time left. Don't you want free shoes and fame? After the last photo posting on here, it looked like people were finally getting the hang of this and we got some submissions that actually made us giggle. But now y'all are back to the usual slackin' off. You half asses!
There's like five of you, out of hundreds, who actually obeyed the rules. Which means that three out of those five will win shoes. What kinda crap is that? I want to be able to give you an A+, not a big fat F.
Do you know how painful it is to just throw all your lame submissions in the trash? Where's the comedy? Where's the inspiration and creativity? Where's the desire to win free etnies? Stop sucking and get photivated!
Here's a few hints:
- The photo needs to have a pair of etnies in it. DUH! At least get an etnies logo in there somehow and show us you're trying.
- Don't steal a photo off of the internet and send it to us. We aren't that stupid.
The pictures of hot chicks are great, keep 'em coming. We're thankful, but just make sure they have etnies on, otherwise we're just gonna forward the photo all over the office and then toss it. - If the etnies in the photo arent visible or can be proven to be etnies, we can't allow you to win.
- No one said you can't use Photoshop. Wink wink.
- Smaller-sized files would load faster and help me get home from the office before midnight.

- YES! Chilling with Ghandi while wearing etnies. Right on!

- Dude! What the hell is this?

- Just flat-out brilliant! Llamas mating while wearing etnies! Could be in the running for winning. But that doesn't mean to go and copy it now. Be original.

- Oh look how artistic and lovely this photo is! Poor lonely etnies shoe floating down the river of solitude. I think it says a lot about the human condition. No matter how "colorful" we really are, we all just end up isolated at some point. Sigh.

- Sickos! That dog is bummed.

- See that etnies tent in the background? Well, if you are looking at that, you have problems.
Cappa Memorial Paddle Out and Concert
Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, March 22, 2005For those of you who may not yet know Anthony Cappa passed away three weeks ago while out camping and riding with his twin 6 year old boys. He went to sleep on Saturday night and just never woke up on Sunday morning. Anthony Cappa's photos appeared recently in Racer X, Transworld MX, Road Racer X, and various surf magazines. His photos graced the cover of Wide Open freestyle motocross magazine and could be seen in many advertisements, including those of etnies and Oakley.
Thank you to everyone that has participated in functions and been there for Cappa's Family. The outpouring of love has been great and Larissa and the boys realize how many people Cappa touched in his life.
The spreading of Anthony's ashes is scheduled for Friday April 1st as is the benefit concert and party for The Cappa Family.
The paddle out also has boats that will take people that don't want to paddle to just outside the surf line at San Clemente's T-Street beach. If you are going to paddle out then it is suggested you arrive by 4:30 P.M. at T-Street as we will most likely be in the water by 5 P.M. If you wish to go on the boat all are encouraged to arrive also around 4:30 P.M. at Dan Point Harbor and more specifically the Dana Warf. Donna Kalez has arranged the use of the 192 passenger Dana Pride for the service which will meet up with the paddle out. The Boat will leave at approximately 4:45P.M.
Following the paddle out there will be a concert and party at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. All proceeds from the door and silent auction will go to the family. Big thanks to Gary Folgner, Damian Brawner, Hans Sylstra and Paul Pontius for arranging what will be a great night of Cappa style fun.
If you would like to make a donation other than at the Coach House;
"Cappa Twin Fund"
Checks to be made out to Larissa Lasseter
mail : c/o Dean Rohan

The photos are of the service and of the cross that was built by Chris Powers and erected by friends of Cappa in Ocotillo Wells, CA. this past weekend where Anthony passed away three weeks ago.
Please spread the word to all of the people that you know that Cappa touched or that would love to have a good time at the Coach House for a good cause.
Thanks for all the support,
Cameron Steele
Mulisha Tour Update and Photos
Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, March 22, 2005
- Todd Potter is not smart. He has been know to jump 120ft doubles with no helmet while wearing etnies, and a rock solid with no helmet is pretty dumb too. I don’t think it needs to be said, but I’ll say it anyway. Don’t try this at home, or anywhere. Don’t try anything on a bike without a helmet, it’s just dumb! With that said, Todd is my new hero.
I got an update from the Metal Mulisha guys in Oz last night. They are hanging out right now in Manly Beach, just outside of Sydney waiting to go to Tasmania on Friday. The first show went down at the Sydney Superdome and was completely nuts. The show was close to sold out and the fans were going crazy. It was full chaos and destruction with guns, chicks, riots, and fans throwing seats and flipping over cop cars. With one show down, Deegan and the boys have already incited massive amounts of destruction and damages with much more to come. In a statement regarding the devastation, Mulisha smooth talker Jerry Bernardo said, “The Mulisha does not condone this rampant violence and regrets the damage.”
Thanks to Grant Cross from fmxaustralia for the photos!

Reed Makes it Two in a Row
Posted by: Sarah | Monday, March 21, 2005The anticipation leading up to this weekends AMA Supercross in Orlando Florida was that of the season opener in Anaheim, minus the rain. All of the big dogs (Reed, Carmichael and Stewart) were going to be in attendance and no one really knew what to expect.
“Who will win straight up, no crying and no excuses, when all the players are back healthy and racing on the same track?” Sure, a lot of people thought Bubba would run away with it even after not racing since crashing out at Phoenix, and others thought that RC would come back and win because he was so pissed he got smoked by Reed the week before. With all the pressure of the big race RC and Bubba had some critical crashes that cost them any chance getting by Reed. Hot off his huge win last week in Daytona, etnies rider Chad Reed rode the best, had the fewest mistakes and answered the question that was on everyone’s mind with his second win in a row.
Congratulations Chad!
With some troubles, Mike LaRocco and Tim Ferry rounded out the top 10. LaRocco sits in fourth for the THQ AMA Supercross Series points.
1 Chad Reed etnies
2 Ricky Carmichael
3 James M Stewart
4 Kevin W Windham
5 David Vuillemin
6 Sebastien Tortelli
7 Andrew T Short
8 Ernesto Fonseca
9 Mike Larocco etnies
10 Timmy M Ferry etnies
The 125cc main event was pretty exciting too. Josh Hansen, who won last weekend in Daytona, got the holeshot and lead in the beginning but got passed and finished in third place. Josh is now tied for first place in points with Langston.
Kelly Smith got 7th place and Josh Grant came away with 12th.
125cc East
1 David D Millsaps
2 Grant Langston
3 Joshua Hansen etnies
4 Matt Walker
5 Steve Boniface
6 Ryan Mills
7 Kelly D Smith etnies
8 Tucker J Hibbert
9 Troy K Adams
10 Greg S Schnell
11 Chad T Johnson
12 Joshua M Grant etnies
Don’t forget to wake up early next Sunday, March 27 to watch Chad win on ESPN2 starting at 12:00 p.m. EST. There is also a new interview with Reed on RacerX. Supercross takes a week off and comes back to Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas (that’s original) on April 2. With all the momentum and an extra week to prepare, look for Chad to make it three in a row and Josh Hansen to make a run at the 125cc East championship.
Supercross Live!
Posted by: Sarah | Friday, March 18, 2005If you have big plans Saturday night with your girlfriend, boyfriend, sister, grandma or anyone for that matter, cancel them! Supercross from Orlando will be live online at 7:00 PM ET! Yeah, sitting in front of your computer all night may sound lame, but it’s better than a date with grandma, plus you will get to listen to the play by play of Reed putting the whoop on Bubba and RC. (Hopefully!)
A Little Extra Reading Material For You Moto Nerds
Posted by: Sarah | Friday, March 18, 2005
- Josh Hansen
Racer X has some interviews up on their site that are worth checking out. They have a Chad Reed interview where he talks about how he smoked Carmichael at Daytona and there are interviews with Josh Grant and Josh Hansen who took each other out on the last lap of the 125cc main event. There is also an interview with Boost Mobile Yamaha of Troy/etnies rider Brock Sellards who had to stop racing after Atlanta because his tonsils became diseased and he couldn’t breathe. He got them taken out and a couple days later blood started gushing out of his throat. You have to read it!
Updated photo gallery! Kinda…
Posted by: Sarah | Thursday, March 17, 2005The extra section now has photo galleries back. Mostly older stuff, but still good for some laughs. We will be updating the gallery as the photos flow in, so keep checking back.
Tommy Hayden wins Supersport race in Daytona
Posted by: Sarah | Wednesday, March 16, 2005In the opening round of the Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship at Daytona Speedway, etnies rider Tommy Hayden completely smoked the competition. Tommy started with the pole position and continued to lead every lap of the 22 lap race and win by 3.723 seconds on his new Kawasaki ZX-6RR.
In the Formula Xtreme race, etnies road racer Jake Zemke got on the podium with third place.
A Few Photo Contest Hints For You Numbskulls...
Posted by: Brink | Tuesday, March 15, 2005
- Getting warmer...this is actually pretty funny, and odd at the same time. This bird's outfit isn't much different from what some pro skateboarders wear nowadays.
Ok kiddies, we at etnies are stoked at all the photo submissions we are getting for this month's Crazy Photo shoe giveaway.
However, for every interesting one that meets the requirements of the contest, we have about 10 that completely ignore every rule.
Here's a few hints:
- The photo needs to have a pair of etnies in it. DUH! At least get an etnies logo in there somehow and show us you're trying.
- Don't steal a photo off of the internet and send it to us. We aren't that stupid.
- The pictures of hot chicks are great, keep 'em coming.
So get crazy, get creative, have fun and keep em coming. Hopefully you can learn what not to do from the sample submissions included here, all of which showed up here in the last few days:

- Ok, this photo is ridiculously stupid and great. It might even be trying to make some sort of artistic "statement." However, the self-proclaimed "loser" forgot to show his etnies.

- This photo is brilliant, but once again, no etnies, no winner.

- Isn't this photo beautiful and serene? Kinda make you want to go mediate right? Who gives a crap?! There's no shoes in it.

- Possibly on the right track. Notice the etnies shoe? The chick might even be kinda cute, but we cant see her face and she's wearing far too many clothes.
etnies rig in Orlando for SX
Posted by: Sarah | Monday, March 14, 2005Look for the new etnies rig at next weeks Orlando Supercross.
Interesting RV Fact: It has enough space to fill 365 kegs, which equals 724,160 ounces of beer. That’s a keg of beer per day for a year. I hope that’s enough.
Reed spanks RC in his own back yard! Ouch!
Posted by: Sarah | Monday, March 14, 2005Our boy Chad Reed showed up in Daytona Beach on a mission and ready to win. Some doubted that Reed could win his second Daytona Supercross in a row with Carmichael in contention, but that’s just what he did. Starting with a holeshot in the main event, Chad proceeded to pull ahead of the pack and lead every lap of the race. He finished 34 seconds in front of the nearest competitor, proving he has what it takes to beat Ricky at his own game in his own back yard. I think Carmichael said it best, "I was able to hang it out there, but I wasn't able to get by him. Chad was the best guy tonight."
Congrats Chad!
Mike LaRocco rode strong as always taking the 3rd podium spot on his Amsoil Chaparral Honda and is currently 4th in the season points.
Travis Preston got 6th place for his best finish of his season so far.
Tim Ferry took 9th place, improving on his last two 11th and 10th finishes.
125cc etnies riders battle for 1 & 2
Etnies riders Josh Hansen and Josh Grant battled it out for the top spot in the 125cc main event. Grant had the lead from the start and began pulling from the field. Hansen made his way to second and started reeling in Grant. On the last lap Hansen made a last ditch effort to pass Grant which paid off. Both went down, but Hansen got going quicker and held off Grant for the win. This was Josh Grants first Supercross podium and Josh Hansen’s first Supercross win of the season, which puts Hansen 1st in the 125 east points.
Kelly Smith of Boost Mobile Yamaha of Troy rounded out the top 5 in Daytona and is currently 4th in the 125 east points.
Joaquim Rodrigues finished 9th and is 8th in the 125 east points

Chad Reed Podiums Again!
Posted by: Brink | Monday, March 7, 2005Seems the only one keeping Ricky Carmichael on his toes this season is etnies' own Chad Reed, who placed second yet again last weekend at the St. Louis 250cc Supercross. Congrats on another great race, Chad.
Moto Team Happenings
Posted by: Brink | Wednesday, March 2, 2005
- Chad took first two weeks ago and second last weekend. We'll see him back in the center slot soon. Check out that hot chick next to him!
Chad Reed had a great battle for the 8th 250cc Supercross race of the '05 season in Atlanta. Chad had made several passes for the lead and was finally edged out by Ricky Carmichael. Chad finished second and is still second in points for the season with eight races to go.

- "Eff you!"
Twitch just returned from Osaka, Japan where he won a contest that paid him 1,000,000 yen. Jeremy is going to lay low for a while 'till he leaves on the Mulisha tour in April. Deegan, Seth, Kinnaird and several others will be riding on the five-week tour. We'll keep you posted. its gonna be sick!
NASCAR did a piece on Brian Deegan last week and some of the drivers went out to check out the compound in Temecula. Carl Edwards is a friend of the Mulisha and etnies. Carl finished 5th this weekend at California Speedway at the Auto Club 500.
Tim Ferry came out to Atlanta for his first race back after another wrist injury at the beginning of the season put him out for several races. Timmy finished 11th.
Mike LaRocco finished 5th and Travis Preston finished 13th in Atlanta. The next Supercross is March 5th in ST Louis. March 11th is Daytona and March19th is Orlando.

- Deegs!
Kelly Smith of Yamaha of Troy was the top etnies 125cc rider coming in 5th. Josh Hansen of the KTM Red Bull team finished 6th and Josh Grant our Factory Connection rider finished 7th. Brock Sellards also on the Yamaha of Troy team finished 10th.
Dan Pastor Left today for New Zealand for the Crusty tour. Pastor will be riding there for three weeks and then going to Australia for five weeks.

- LaRocco!
Todd Potter is in Thailand doing a show for the next week. Seth Enslow and Trigger Gumm are going on the Crusty tour in about a month in Australia.
Darcy Lange won the 04/05 Arenacross title for the Richmond Kawasaki team. Darcy has been a dominant rider in the series for two years now.
