Deegan Takes Best Trick at Winter X!

Posted by: Brink | Monday, January 31, 2005

etnies pro and Metal Mulisha frontman Brian Deegan set a Winter X Games record by winning Moto-X for the second time (he also won in 2003) with a mid-blizzard no-footed flip. This Best Trick gold is also Deegan’s 10th career X Games medal.

Deegan slammed hard during practice attempting a no-footed backflip/whip combo. As a result his crew was still trying to change his handlebars and straighten the front end on his bike only moments before the finals. However, neither the slam nor the snowfall fazed Deegs, and he came out on top again.

Deegan broke his left femur and both wrists when he bailed a 360 attempt and fell 40 onto ice during prelims at the 2004 Winter X Games and called this return one of the biggest thrills of his life. "I don't think many people have come from a broken femur to win again," he said.

Chad Reed finished 2nd this weekend at Anaheim, and is in 3rd place in points for the 16 round series. Chad got a 2nd place start and was catching Ricky Carmichael when he crashed around the sixth lap at the end of the rhythm section.

Tim Ferry crashed and hurt his wrist again before Anaheim. He finished 11th at Anaheim and 12th in Phoenix last week.

Mike LaRocco finished 4th this weekend at Anaheim and is 5th in points.

Tommy Hahn finished 5th at Anaheim. He was in 4th, but went off the triple jump while the red lights were flashing and got docked a position. Tommy was already on the face of the jump when the lights came on, and had no choice but to jump the obstacle.

etnies Arenacross riders are in 1st, 2nd and 7th in points with two rounds to go. Darcy Lange has a 118 point lead over Jeff Northrop--both are etnies riders.

Evan Laughridge is in 7th place at the end of the season

Seth Enslow and Trigger Gumm are going on the Crusty tour and will be jumping at the Day of Records. Both riders will be attempting to break long distance world records.

Brian Deegan was out in Phoenix, Arizona last weekend for Tony Hawk's Boom Boom Huck Jam. He also stopped by Industrial and did an autograph signing for the etnies Mulisha shoe on Saturday. Brian had the mall in an uproar. Afterwards, we went over to check out the Supercross at Bank One.

Winter X Games is coming up in Aspen, Colorado again this weekend, and etnies has a very strong crew going up to ride. Deegan, Twitch and Dayne Kinnaird will be representing etnies Moto-X in the snow.
