Moto-X Team Report 10-13-04

Chad Reed defended his U.S. Supercross title this weekend at the MGM Grand in Vegas. He won Friday and Saturday nights race for the overall win. Last year, Reed won and donated his $100,000 prize money to a rider in Australia who broke his neck and was paralyzed. Now, he will be testing and getting ready for the opening round of the U.S. Supercross series on January 1 at Anaheim. Chad is still undecided about riding the two World Supercross races in Canada in December.

Nico Izzy is etniesҒ number one amateur rider and won all four motos in the 85cc class to claim the title in Vegas. Nico still has two years in the amateur circuit and will dominate for years to come.

This weekend, etnies picked up a new etnies rider in the 250cc class, Mike LaRocco. Mike finished 3rd overall at the U.S. Open and is a top five rider in Supercross and the outdoor series. So, now etnies will have racers Chad Reed, Tim Ferry, Travis Preston and Mike LaRocco. There's a couple of things you should know about Mike, apart from the fact that he's one of the sport's fiercest competitors, owns two AMA National titles, a World Supercross championship and the 2002 THQ U.S. Open Supercross title. First, he's one of only three riders to beat 250 Supercross and 250 National Champion Ricky Carmichael in regular AMA competition in 2002. Second, 31-year-old LaRocco's first race was in 1978, a year before Carmichael was even born.

Kawasakis Tommy Hayden won his first AMA pro title, taking the Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship with a measured performance on a sunny afternoon at the Virginia International Raceway. Tommy came into the race with an 11 point lead on brother Roger Lee and the guarantee that one or the other would win the title. Tommy raced with Roger Lee in a pack contesting 4th, then 3rd when YamahaҒs Damon Buckmaster dropped out. At the end, he was 6th and earned more than enough points to take the number one plate. The final points show Tommy with 352 and Roger Lee with 343.

Tim Ferry and his wife had their first child today, a healthy baby boy. Congratulations, Tim and Evie!

On Monday night, I went to the Roxy to see one of my favorite bands, FL, play. They run etnies strong and have been in the studio for quite some time recording a new album. Check out their Web site.

Moto-X Team Report 10-05-04

Jeremy Stenberg finished 2nd at the LG Freestyle event in Pomona on Saturday night. Todd Potter, Jeremy Carter and Darek Garland finished 7th 8th and 9th, respectively. Twitch will be going to the next round of the Triple Crown in two weeks.

Brian Deegan is just back from Canada, where he did some demos and signed some autographs. He will be at the compound working on some new tricks over the next couple of months.

Chad Reed will be defending his U.S. Open title this weekend in Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday night. The race is inside the MGM hotel in the Grand Arena. Hes getting ready to defend his Supercross title in January, also.

Tim Ferry is at home in Florida dodging hurricanes and getting ready to ride again after some time off due to a hand injury he suffered early in the 2004 Supercross season.
